Arkansas Travelers are Here

This year’s One Heirloom Project plants have arrived! Arkansas Travelers are luscious, delicious fruits that grow to about 5 to 7 ounces. These rosy pink heirlooms can tolerate high heat and humidity and are indeterminate. Our non-GMO organic seeds came from Baker Creek Seeds. They were started at Cheney Mansion by Charlie, their trusty gardener. Then the seedlings traveled to the greenhouse of Jessica, a wonderful friend of GHE who is a gardening encyclopedia herself. For a successful growing season, use these guidelines:

Spacing: 18-24″ in rows 5-6′ apart
Depth: 1/8-3/8″
Sun/Shade: Full Sun
Germination: 3-8 days
Days To Maturity: 65-75 days
Fruit: Pink heirloom, 5-7 ounces
Comments: Tomatoes should be firm and fully colored. Tomatoes turn pink when mature. During hot summer weather, pick your tomatoes every day or two.

I hope you will! The plants are sturdy and beautiful, and the project is a great way to connect with gardeners in the community.
