Here are some simple, eco-friendly ideas for going back to school:

1) Reuse as much as possible from the previous school year and older siblings: backpacks, clothes, lunch bags, and school supplies.

2) Pack lunches with reusable bags and drink containers.

3) Walk or ride your bike to school with your kids, or if they’re old enough, allow them to walk or ride on their own.

4) If your supply list asks for tissues, paper towels, and other paper products for the classroom, buy products with recycled product.

Surely you readers have more tips too, right?  Then share your ideas!

My children and I are very concerned about the environment. We saved all our unused school supplies from last year and are sorting thru them to see what we can re-use. But the best thing we bought so far came from a company called Terra Cycle. They recycle cookie wrappers, energy bar wrappers etc. and make them into pencil holders, bows, and other items. We bought the pencil holders and my children are so excited about this product that they would like try to purchase only recycled content items for use at school this year.
